Sun

Mixed Media Acrylic on Canvas

1200 x 1500mm

The stars and planets have always been a focus of Max’s work. Having done celestial bodies in our solar system before, Max wanted to paint the star that holds us all together in his biggest, simplest work yet - The Sun. Layered down beneath the white and gold is a blue sky followed by a field of flowers, this is to signify life on earth and what Max felt he knew the sun to be. Green plants and sunflowers filled the air before being working into the background where they now sit as a series of marks etched into the water-washed concrete that surrounds the golden globe. Max noted he finds it so interesting how sometimes its the focus ‘off’ a colour that makes a colour so special. His example of this is shown in how the greens and blues beneath the yellows and oranges bring those colours to life, he calls it the beauty of contrast. Max stated that he ‘wants the paintings to look as if they have existed for 100’s of years’ and of course, 100’s to come.
