Over the years, Max creates works that get cropped in the process of creation. Instead of throwing these extras out, he saves them knowing their importance at the time and collages them into new life in the future. Early ocean work alongside windows of the NZ Bees series and neutral greys can be found delicately positioned on the canvas to enrich the story telling. Max named this tree after Christchurch city as the different sections reminded him of separate sections of land. The gold foil over the collage creates an amazing aesthetic as it changes depth over the different heights created in the mosaic.
Each background is painted in original acrylic media and hand printed in gold foil to create a rich two-tone medium gathering great contrast between sections.
